Gliding easily into the Caribbean and packing away winter clothes
Life onboard after New York has settled into a different rhythm – the weather is warmer as we sail south and we have expanded out onto decks. Those wanting a tan to show for their winter holiday have begun staking out lounge chairs, and there is now music out on deck. Since New York, there has also been a spike in covid cases. The infected passengers and crew are in isolation for a minimum of 6 days and then tested daily after that. Masks are now mandatory while moving about in public areas and sitting at bars are no longer permitted. I assume this will be the situation until the…

Sailing in and out of New York Harbor – A destination on its own
I have to say, no matter how many times I have visited New York, nothing compares to the feeling of sailing into the harbor. We were fortunate on this voyage to be berthed at Pier 90 which is in the Hell’s Kitchen area on the west side of Manhattan. It’s an easy walk into Times Square, and if you shop too much, an easy UBER back. The elegance of the Queen Victoria!
One of my favorite spaces on the Queen Victoria is this multi-level library. It is absolutely stunning and a wonderful place to just hang out. The library staff are very helpful and with over 6,000 books to read, I might give my Kindle a break. With the exception of the guide books (and they have at least one for every country/port on our itinerary), you can check the books out to read in whatever nook you favor on the ship. I like the Chart Room myself. This gorgeous clock and staircase are found in, of all places, the casino. I’ve found that the casinos on Cunard are much more quiet…

Settling in to life on Queen Victoria
The staff on the Queen Mary 2 did a stellar job of arranging transfer of both luggage and person for those of us continuing on the world voyage on Queen Victoria. The immigration process had been done onboard and I was in my cabin by lunchtime. Southampton did an amazing job of sending off the two Queens, Mary & Victoria, on their world voyages. Our itineraries are different, but both start right here. One of our Facebook Members created this compilation video that is better than anything I could show you. Thank you Nick! The link below will take you to a quick YouTube video that shows the band and…
