Europe: Days 1 & 2 – Just Getting Here

I love the show on CBS called “The Amazing Race”. I also know as much as I love to travel, I would never apply to be on that show. The constant rush/wait of airports, buses, hotels…exhausting. That’s how all international travel goes however. Days 1 & 2 of my big adventure was no different.

I left Tampa last night at 6:30 p.m.  This is my 11th transatlantic flight since 1997 and I think I slept on 2 of those. I did not sleep last night. We arrived at Gatwick Airport, London at 8:00 this morning. My flight to Barcelona is at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow morning leaving from Heathrow Airport, London. So after clearing customs (always really very pleasant at Gatwick), I bought a bus ticket to come up to Heathrow. Then another bus ticket to get to my hotel. Early flights don’t mean early room availability so I had a delay at the hotel before I could get into the room. But I had a nice breakfast, got into my room, then took a nice nap. Not too shabby.

I need to leave by 4:30 a.m. tomorrow for my flight to Barcelona so my PLAN is to have a nice dinner then early bedtime. Wish me luck!

I’ve decided for this trip instead of “Eat, Pray, Love” – it’s going to be “Eat, Drink, Eat”. I’m off to a good start!.
